PRM review & technical specification

To make Greater Anglia´s Class 317/3 and 317/5 Units PRM TSI compliant

Background

All passenger rolling stock must be accessible to the mobility impaired by the 1st January 2020 (PRM TSI). To allow their units to remain in passenger service post 2019, Greater Anglia had a requirement to make their Class 317/3 and 317/5 units compliant with the accessibilty requirements set by the Department for Transports. ESG Rail has undertaken a number of accessbility compliance surveys on behalf of rolling stock leasing companies and operators, and so was contracted to conduct a technical survey of the Class 317/3 and 317/5 units, to determine the modifications that needed to be made to the fleet to enable the vehicles to remain in passenger service.

Work undertaken

  • PRM "targeted compliance" survey of the Class 317/3 and 317/5 units was undertaken at Seven Kings Depot, to establish the vehicle aspects requiring modification.
  • Production of an accessibility compliance report detailing the modifications required to achieve targeted compliance.
  • A technical specification was created that detailed the modifications required.
